SIDNEY, Neb. (March 21, 2013) – Cabela’s Canada announced today that it will celebrate the official grand opening of its recently relocated Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, store at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Cabela’s executives and special guests will begin at 10:45 a.m., kicking off a weekend-long celebration featuring outdoor personalities, family events, giveaways and more.
The new store, which is 70,000 square feet, is located at the intersection of Sterling Lyon Parkway and Kenaston Boulevard as part of a new retail development which includes IKEA and other retailers. The existing store, which is 44,000 square feet, has been located in the Polo Park district, approximately seven kilometres from the new site, since opening in 2008. It will close in conjunction with the new store opening.
In addition to thousands of quality outdoor products, the new location will include an indoor mountain replica featuring museum-quality wildlife displays, an archery pro shop and single-lane testing range, Bargain Cave, Gun Library, Fudge Shop and 50-person-capacity conference room. It will also feature an In-Store Pick-Up program allowing customers to order gear ahead of time and have it shipped to the store at no cost.
“This store will allow us to more efficiently serve our thousands of loyal customers across the region and further solidifies our long-term commitment to Winnipeg,” said Tommy Millner, Cabela’s Chief Executive Officer. “We hope outdoorsmen and women in Winnipeg and the surrounding area are as excited as we are to open the doors.”
In 2007, Cabela’s purchased S.I.R. Warehouse Sports Store and mail-order operation in Winnipeg and incorporated it into its business, renovating the store to reflect the Cabela’s trademark look and feel and incorporating S.I.R.’s catalogue operation into its own. In 2010, Cabela’s acquired a 345,000 square foot facility in Winnipeg to serve as its Canadian corporate headquarters, call centre and distribution centre. Cabela’s expects the new store will create approximately 75 new full and part-time jobs.
Currently, Cabela’s operates 42 stores across North America, including three in Canada – Winnipeg; Edmonton, Alberta; and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The company has announced plans to open an additional 13 stores in 2013 and 2014, including a Regina, Saskatchewan, location this fall.
