SIDNEY, Neb. (Nov. 18, 2014) – Cabela’s Incorporated, the World’s Foremost Outfitter® of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, announced today plans to bring the extraordinary Cabela’s retail experience to customers in Canada’s capital city of Ottawa, Ontario, and the surrounding area.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2015, and Cabela’s plans to open the store in the fall of 2016. The 70,000-square-foot store will be located near the intersection of Palladium Drive and Highway 417. It will anchor the newly planned Kanata West Centre, which is being developed by Taggart Realty Management.

The store will be Cabela’s second location in Ontario, joining the 70,000-square-foot Barrie location opened in July. Cabela’s expects to hire approximately 175 full-time and part-time employees, most of whom will come from Ottawa and the surrounding area.

The store will be built in Cabela’s new-format Canadian layout, designed to surround customers in an outdoor-like experience with a large mountain replica and museum-quality wildlife displays. In addition to thousands of quality outdoor products, the store will include an indoor archery range and archery tech room, Gun Library, Bargain Cave and fudge shop.

Cabela’s stores showcase thousands of products, including hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating and wildlife-watching gear, as well as clothing and outdoor-themed gifts and furnishings. The company is famous for its strong brand and world-renowned reputation for delivering quality merchandise, value and legendary customer service. Additionally, the store’s staff will host educational seminars and demonstrations throughout the year, offering tips and insight on outdoor products and activities.

Cabela’s Canada was established in 2007 with a store and headquarters for Canadian operations in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 2010, Cabela’s Canada opened its current corporate headquarters and call centre in Winnipeg.

Cabela’s currently operates 64 stores across North America, including seven in Canada: Winnipeg; Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan; Barrie, Ontario; Nanaimo, British Columbia; and two Edmonton, Alberta, locations. The company has announced plans to open an additional 19 stores during the next two years, including locations in Moncton, New Brunswick, in summer 2015; and Calgary, Alberta, in fall 2015.
