Hiking Essentials
Hiking Etiquette

Hiking is about more than just scenic views. It's about experiencing nature and reconnecting with it. It's our responsibility to keep these trails wild and beautiful for future generations. Here's how to hike like you care about the land and wildlife.
Leave No Trace (Seriously!):
It's the golden rule of the outdoors. Leave it better than you found it. Pack out everything and pick up any trash on the trails.
Stay on the Trail:
Cutting switchbacks and stomping through vegetation can cause erosion and damage fragile ecosystems. Trails are there for a reason and it's our responsibility to stick to them.
Give Wildlife Space:
We need to be mindful that we are in their home. Keep a safe distance and avoid feeding the wildlife.
Right of Way: There’s a pecking order on the trail
- Hikers going uphill have the right of way
- Yield to horses and give them space
- Mountain bikers should yield to hikers and be courteous
Keep it Down:
Enjoy nature’s soundtracks and avoid playing loud music. It can disturb the wildlife.
Dogs on a Leash:
The rules for parks differ from one to another. Check them before heading out with your dog and keep them leashed if the rules intend to.
Respect Quiet Hours:
Weather it's camping or hiking, be mindful of noise after dark. Respect other’s time in the outdoors.
Share the Trail, Spread the Respect:
Being outdoors is all about connecting with nature and respecting it. A little awareness and care on the trail means that the next hiker and the one after gets to experience the same beauty as you did. Keep it clean and wild.
